School bus safety faces scrutiny in Warangal
Warangal: A series of school-bus accidents in the erstwhile Warangal district has raised serious concerns over the safety of students, with parents blaming inadequate monitoring by transport authorities and lapses by school managements.
A school bus carrying around 40 students collided with a tractor-trolley near Srinagar Crossroads on February 9, killing two people and injuring several students. On April 6, a speeding car hit a school bus at Oglapur, injuring the bus driver and three others. On July 8, another bus carrying nearly 40 students rammed into a truck near Nallel Crossroads, leaving several pupils with minor injuries.
The latest scare occurred on August 21 on the Thorrur–Annaram road, where a school bus carrying over 30 students suffered a rear tyre burst while moving.
Parents say fitness certificates alone cannot ensure safety and demand periodic inspections, driver verification, speed monitoring and strict action against schools using old or overloaded buses.
