BJP's Dinesh Arya to file nomination for RS seat in Uttarakhand today
Dehradun: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha candidate Dinesh Arya will file his nomination for the Upper House election in Uttarakhand at the state Assembly here on Tuesday.
According to the schedule, all BJP MLAs are expected to reach the Assembly by 10 a.m., following which Arya will submit his nomination papers at 11 a.m. for the Rajya Sabha election.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with senior BJP leaders and key office-bearers of the party, will be present during the nomination process.
Arya's nomination is being viewed as an important show of the BJP's electoral strategy and organisational unity in the state. The presence of the party's legislators and senior leadership during the filing of the nomination is also expected to underline the BJP's coordinated approach towards the Rajya Sabha election.
Earlier on Sunday, the BJP announced Arya as its candidate for the 2026 Rajya Sabha biennial election in Uttarakhand.
The election in Uttarakhand has been necessitated by the completion of the term of sitting Rajya Sabha member Naresh Bansal.
The Election Commission of India (ECI), on September 22, announced the schedule for biennial elections to 11 Rajya Sabha seats, along with a by-election for one seat from West Bengal, to be held on October 16.
Of the 11 seats going to polls in the biennial elections, 10 are from Uttar Pradesh, and one is from Uttarakhand. The election in West Bengal is being held to fill a casual vacancy in the Upper House.
As per the election schedule, the scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on October 7. Candidates will be able to withdraw their candidature until October 9.
Polling for the Rajya Sabha seats will be held on October 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Counting of votes will begin at 5 p.m. on the same day.
With Arya's nomination, the BJP is set to formally begin the electoral process for the Uttarakhand Rajya Sabha seat.
