In Short

Dhami Government’s Sensitivity and Firm Action in the Ankita Bhandari Case
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s clear message: Strict action against crimes against women and ensuring justice for victims’ families remain the government’s highest priorities.
In the Ankita Bhandari murder case, the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, took several important steps to ensure prompt action, a fair investigation, effective prosecution and assistance to the victim’s family. From the swift arrest of the accused and the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to decisions on prosecution arrangements and the demands of the family, the government treated this sensitive case with utmost seriousness.
From the outset, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made it clear that women’s safety and stringent action against offenders were among the government’s top priorities. Accordingly, the police were directed to take prompt action. The accused were arrested and sent to jail within 24 hours of the incident coming to light. An SIT was constituted to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure legal action against the accused on the basis of available evidence.
Emphasis on the SIT Investigation and Strengthening the Prosecution
During the investigation, a chargesheet was filed before the court on the basis of evidence and witness statements. The prosecution presented its case before the court. Action was also taken against the accused under the Gangsters Act. Following the judicial proceedings, the convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment. The verdict was delivered by the court on the basis of the evidence presented and the due process of law.
The state government facilitated action in accordance with the law and the continuation of the prosecution process. Judicial orders concerning bail also played their role in the proceedings.
Respecting the Family’s Sentiments and Demands
Throughout the Ankita Bhandari case, the state government gave due importance to the sentiments and demands of the victim’s family. Government advocates were changed at the family’s request, enabling the family’s concerns and expectations to be represented during the judicial process. Furthermore, when Ankita’s parents demanded a CBI investigation, the Chief Minister took a decision on their request and initiated steps to take the CBI investigation process forward.
The government’s approach demonstrates that, in sensitive cases, administrative action alone is not enough; maintaining the confidence of the victim’s family is equally important. Listening to the family’s concerns and demands and taking decisions within the framework of the law are integral to accountable governance.
Financial Assistance and Employment Provide Support to the Family
Following Ankita’s death, the state government provided financial assistance of ₹25 lakh to support the family economically and socially. Steps were also taken to provide employment to family members. Through these measures, the government conveyed that families affected by serious crimes should receive support not only through the judicial process but also in overcoming the difficulties of everyday life.
Government’s Commitment to Women’s Safety and Justice
The Ankita Bhandari case has sparked widespread discussion on women’s safety, criminal investigations and the judicial process. In such cases, the police, prosecution, judiciary and government each have distinct and defined responsibilities. The government’s responsibility is to ensure that investigating agencies act in accordance with the law, prosecution remains effective and the victim’s family receives the necessary assistance.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government took steps in this case involving prompt action, investigation, consideration of the family’s demands and financial assistance. The government’s message is clear: Crimes against women will be treated with utmost seriousness, and every effort will be made to ensure action in accordance with the law in each case.
The pursuit of justice for Ankita Bhandari is not limited to a single criminal case; it is also connected with women’s safety, sensitive governance and public faith in the rule of law. The steps taken by the government in this case highlight its administrative accountability and sensitivity towards the victim’s family.
