Gurugram Bike Crash: Kalyan Bainsla Detained In Rajasthan After Attempt-To-Murder Charge

The Gurugram Police arrested the main accused, Kalyan Bainsla, after the woman biker Shivani Chauhan, known as Sia on social media, was involved in a bike accident on Golf Course Road in the city on Tuesday evening. The detention was hours after police added an attempt-to-murder charge to the case.

The action followed the widespread circulation of videos that allegedly showed a car colliding with Sia’s motorcycle during an apparent road-rage incident.

Attempt-To-Murder Charge Added

Police initially registered an FIR on Monday under Sections 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 125 deals with acts endangering the life or personal safety of others, while Section 281 relates to rash driving.

The police subsequently added Section 109 of the BNS, which deals with attempt to murder.

Bainsla was detained in Rajasthan following the addition of the more serious charge.

What Happened On Golf Course Road?

The incident reportedly took place early Sunday when Sia was riding her Aprilia sports bike with a group of fellow riders on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road.

According to Sia, the driver of the white Maruti Ciaz started to follow her and kept flashing her the signal to stop in a video posted on social media. She said she had told the motorist to stay at a distance but he was still coming towards her.

Sia further alleged that people inside the car appeared to be drunk and that she tried to keep away from the vehicle. According to her account, a friend attempted to prevent the car from intercepting her before the vehicle allegedly struck her motorcycle.

The incident was captured on camera and the footage subsequently went viral, prompting Gurugram Police to take suo motu cognisance and register a case.

Bainsla Calls Collision Accidental

Bainsla has denied deliberately hitting Sia’s motorcycle. He claimed that he was travelling with family members and had asked the bikers to slow down.

According to Bainsla, the collision occurred when Sia allegedly turned without checking her mirrors near a U-turn and he lost control of his car. He acknowledged that the collision was his fault but maintained that it was not intentional.

He also claimed that he left the location because he feared that members of the group might attack him and the other occupants of the car.

Accused’s Lawyer Blames Biker

Bainsla’s lawyer has also disputed Sia’s version of events and blamed the biker for the crash.

Speaking to the media, the lawyer alleged that Sia was riding at a very high speed and accused her of using the incident to gain social-media attention and followers. He claimed that four people were travelling in Bainsla’s car and that they left because they feared a possible mob attack.

The lawyer further maintained that the collision occurred while the car was attempting to avoid the footpath and the motorcycle.

In a subsequent social-media video, Sia asked why he did not stop immediately after the crash if he was genuinely concerned about her condition. She said a driver involved in such a collision should stop and check whether the injured person requires medical assistance.

Sia has maintained that the collision was deliberate, while Bainsla has described it as an accident. Additionally, family Says Sia Is Traumatised.

Her brother told news agency ANI that she was experiencing what he described as trauma following the incident. He also alleged that four people in the car were drunk. He said Sia’s lawyer had already spoken with the police station house officer regarding further legal action.

Sia’s father said he learnt about the incident on Monday and claimed he would have approached the police earlier had he been informed sooner.

The case remains under investigation, with police action now having escalated following the addition of the attempt-to-murder charge.
