Irrigation, farming to get lion’s share in next budget: Yanamala

Rajamahendravaram: Minister for finance Yanamala Ramakrishnudu on Thursday said the draft budget for 2018-19 will be completed after discussing with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Speaking to reporters at the residence of Rural MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary on Thursday, he said at present the state is having a revenue deficit of Rs 17,000 crore and since three-and-half years, the government had obtained loans to the tune of Rs 56,000 crore. He said discussions would be held with all department heads to include their proposals in the budget.

Irrigation and panchayat raj departments spent an additional amount of Rs 10,000 crore as against budgetary allocations. Stating that increasing of capital expenditure reflects the development of the state, the minister said the growth rate in agriculture sector was 21.4 per cent and the paddy yield escalated though acreage was reduced.

Government would give priority to redress the grievances received through 1100 number and the grievances uploaded in website would also be taken into consideration, he added. Stating that the state is in number one position by generating jobs to 5.2 per cent in the country, he added top priority would be given to irrigation, agriculture and industrial sector in the ensuing budget.

The Central government would reimburse the amount spent on works related to Amaravati and Polavaram project, Ramakrishnudu said. He also said the Centre reimbursed an amount of Rs 44 crore relating to the variation of GST and the government would make efforts to redress the teething problems in implementing the GST.

As per AP Bifurcation Act, Centre should bear the entire expenditure of Polavaram project. Rural MLA GB Chowdary and Rajanagaram MLA P Venkatesh were present.
