Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao, who had led the movement for statehood for Telangana about 14 long years, on Monday took the oath of office as the first chief minister of India's 29th state that was officially formed at the midnight of Sunday. The oath of office was administered by Governor ESL Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan.

KCR took the oath along with 11 ministers, including his son KT Rama Rao and nephew T Harish Rao, at 8.20 am, the auspicious time fixed by priests. There are two Deputy Chief Ministers – Mohammed Mahmood (MLC) and Tadikonda Rajaiah, MLA from Station Ghanpur. While Mahmood represented the Minority community, Rajaiah belongs to the Backward Class.

Other Cabinet ministers who took the oath are Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Eatela Rajender (Huzurabad), Pocharam Srinivas Reddy (Banswada), T Padma Rao (Secunderabad), Patnam Mahender Reddy (Tandur), Jogu Ramanna (Adilabad) and Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy (Suryapet). Of the 11 ministers, Nayani Narasimha Reddy is neither a MLA nor a MLC. Hence, he needs to be elected to the State Assembly or the Council within six months.

Rao assumed charge as the Chief Minister at 12.57 pm as per the advice of astrologers. After that he held the first meeting of his Cabinet and approved the Telagana government emblem. The Cabinet also decided to hold the State Assembly session on June 9 to facilitate the MLAs take the oath.

Rao announced several sops to Telangana employees, including implementation of the 10th Pay Revision Commission's (PRC) recommendations at "jetspeed. He assured that the State Government employees would be paid salaries on par with the Central Government employees. Modern facilities would be provided in offices for better results.

In his maiden speech as Chief Minster, after inspecting the guard of honour at the Parade Grounds soon after taking the oath, Rao unveiled his vision for the T-state and promised people-centric government free of corruption. He promised to make Telangana the Seed Bowl of India and Hyderabad a slum-free international city. Stating that welfare and development would be the topmost priority of the State Government, he said, "People have high expectations from the State Government and we will make every effort to fulfil all those aspirations. Development will be people centric. It will be transparent and corruption free".

Tackling power problem and making Telangana a surplus state would get top priority. He also assured to protect the Brand Hyderabad image and said that the government would soon come up with a new industrial policy and introduce single window system for speedy clearances.

Rao said the Telangana government would maintain cordial relationship not only with the Centre but also with the neighbouring states. Rooting out "political corruption" would be high on his agenda to ensure transparent governance, he said, adding he would make Telangana a model state in the country in all respects.
