Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh State Human Resources Development (HRD) minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao came down heavily on the provocative, discriminatory and unilateral pursuit of Telangana government which was adversely affecting lakhs of students of the State.

The Minister flayed TS government for unilaterally announcing that Potti Sriramulu Telugu University and Dr BR Ambedkar Open University would no longer serve the students of AP was provocative and in utter contravention of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. Criticising the act of the government for withholding the results of AP students, while announcing the results of Telangana students, the minister said it was an act of discrimination.

The minister said though the TS Education minister Kadiyam Srihari had promised to deliver 1.25 lakh records of AP students to conduct Eamcet counselling till date, the same has not been fulfilled. Forget about allocation of staff for conducting counselling, they did not even allow us to copy the data of the students of Andhra Pradesh to conduct Eamcet counselling, he said.

However, keeping in view of the future of the students and to prevent meritorious students going to other states in search of admissions, the State government had gone ahead with the first phase of counselling and the second phase of counselling would be held on July 9, 10 and 11, the minister said.

Ganta said that since the provocative attitude of TS has been making the situation go beyond tolerable levels, State government has decided to explore every option available to get justice for the students of the State. First, we will brief the situation to the Governor who is also the Chancellor, and then to the Union government.

If nothing comes forth, then we will have to explore the legal course for protecting the interests of our students.A final course of action to protect the interests of the State students would be taken after a thorough discussion with the law department, he clarified.
