Pilgrims touch 1.2 crore mark in West Godavari

Lakhs of pilgrims turned out on the 10th day of Godavari Maha Pushkaralu in West Godavari district on Thursday. The Kovvur, Narapuram division ghats were jam packed in the last two days ahead of the closing ceremony. During last ten days about 1.20 crore people turned out in West Godavari district to have the holy bath.

Kovvur: Lakhs of pilgrims turned out on the 10th day of Godavari Maha Pushkaralu in West Godavari district on Thursday. The Kovvur, Narapuram division ghats were jam packed in the last two days ahead of the closing ceremony. During last ten days about 1.20 crore people turned out in West Godavari district to have the holy bath.

The Goshpada Kshetram the main ghat in Kovvur was packed with pilgrims who took holy dip and visited nearby temples. AP Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao took the holy dip and offered prayers to the cows and Telugu Desam Whip Chintamaneni Prabhakar also took the holy bath.


The other ghats of Kovvur town also witnessed big crowds. However, the VIP ghat on tenth day looked dull due to low turnout. In Kovvur division alone on tenth day about 7,94,624 pilgrims, Narsapuram division 2,93,695 pilgrims, in Jangareddigudem 3,03,591 pilgrims took the holy dip.


Meanwhile, Ministers Peethala Sujatha and Kamineni Srinivas, In-charge Minister CH Ayyannapatrudu visited the Kovvur town and inspected various ghats and interacted with the pilgrims. Later, Peethala Sujatha participated in the Annadana programme organised by district rice millers association and served the pilgrims.
