Hyderabad: The cash-for-vote scam took a serious turn on Monday with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) including AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s name in the charge-sheet. It may be recalled that TDP MLAs A Revanth Reddy and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah along with some others were arrested for allegedly offering bribe to nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson to vote for their party’s MLC candidate.
The copy of the unsigned charge sheet obtained by The Hans India, Naidu’s name figured several times in the charge-sheet. The charge-sheet was filed in the special court dealing with ACB cases. It further said the ACB had in its possession oral and documentary evidence to establish culpability of Revanth Reddy, Sebastian, Uday Simha and Jerusalem Mathaiah. It also highlighted the involvement of Sathupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah.
The ACB told the Court that at about 3 pm on May 28 the ACB had received a complaint from nominated Anglo-India MLA Elvis Stephenson that Jerusalem Mathaiah had offered him Rs 2 crore and a ticket to leave the country for casting his vote in favour of TDP-BJP candidate during the Legislative Council elections in Telangana State.
Later, enquiry into the case by the ACB revealed the involvement of Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy, Bishop Harry Sebastian. On May 30, an arrangement was done in MLA Stephenson’s home to record the incidents of meeting between Revanth Reddy and Sebastian with Stephenson.
Then Revanth Reddy asked Stephenson’s support in the Legislative Council elections and also said that “he was authorised by N Chandrababu Naidu to negotiate with him to ensure that the nominated MLA voted for the TDP-BJP candidate in the election,” the ACB said in the charge sheet.
Revanth had offered Rs 2.5 crore and told Stephenson to ask a figure to put the same before the AP CM. “Stephenson was also told by Revanth Reddy that Chandrababu Naidu will decide personally and further request him to meet the latter personally and that meeting would remain highly confidential. But the complainant had refused and preferred to the deal with Revanth Reddy only,” the ACB informed the Court.
The same day (May 30) at 4 pm, Sebastian called Stephenson through mobile phone (9394326000) and informed that Naidu wanted to talk to the nominated MLA. Chandrababu Naidu spoke to him stating that “they had briefed me, I am with you don’t bother for everything I am with you, and all your demands will be fulfilled”
Further investigations revealed that Revanth Reddy had used four mobile phones in the commission of offence, Sebastian and Rudra Uday Simha had used two mobile numbers each and Jerusalem used one mobile number. The information collected from the service providers matched with the locations of towers where the accused had moved.
The FSL authorities had also furnished the transcripts of the video and audio footage recorded on May 30 and May 31, and concluded that the audio and video recording not edited. Moving a step ahead in the investigation procedure of cash-for-vote case, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Monday summoned three persons from Bengaluru including a beverage manufacturer from Andhra Pradesh.
Apart from it, the ACB served summons on Bengaluru resident D K Adikeshavulu Naidu, son of K Srinivas Naidu, to appear before the officials for questioning in the case.
