Visakhapatnam: Demanding the State government to scrap all its memorandum of understandings (MoUs) with the AP Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC), MLC MVS Sarma questioned why Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was allowing bauxite mining which he had opposed as an Opposition leader in 2012.

Finding fault with the white paper released by the Chief Minister on Wednesday, Sarma shot off a missive to the former requesting him not to put the lives of tribals in jeopardy.

Speaking to press persons, he recalled that Naidu in 2012 had written to the Centre and governor urging them to cancel all MoUs with APMDC in Vishaka agency. “The white paper released today is white without any facts. Naidu should go through his own letters, written as the Opposition leader, to stop the mining in the tribal areas,” he said.

The MLC also recalled that the then UPA government had cancelled the mining lease given to APMDC using its extra-ordinary powers as per the Fifth Schedule of the Indian Constitution in 2013. He pointedly asked the Chief Minister as who gave him the permission to change those directions.
