Kirlampudi (East Godavari): Former Minister and Kapunadu leader Mudragada Padmanabham expressed his strong objection to the imposition of Section 30 of the Police Act in East Godavari district for a month till January 31.

It may be mentioned that the ban of public meets and rallies till January 31 assumes significance in the wake of the Kapu Reservation Porata Samiti’s decision to hold public meet at Tuni, bordering Vizag, in East Godavari on January 31.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday, which was released to the press, the Kapunadu leader affirmed that the meet would be held at any cost. The former Minister questioned the TDP leadership’s alleged indifference to fulfil pre-poll promises.

“We seek the revival of the facility which existed between 1910 and 1956, and again from 1961 to 1966 by enforcing GO 34 which was issued earlier,” he said. The former Minister said the ban would snatch the basic rights of the people. It was against democracy, the government should revoke the ban immediately as this was a strange and unprecedented step, he added.

He said that it was against Section 19 of the Constitution that ensured freedom of speech and expression. He said the ban amounted to crushing the neck of the democracy and added that the government should not indulge in anti-democratic activities.
