Guntur: Members of Andhra Pradesh Rytu Sangham local unit staged a dharna at Collector office here on Monday, demanding the government to enumerate the extent of chilly crop damage caused by white fly and pay compensation to the damaged crop.

The Sangham also demanded that the government pay compensation to the evacuees of the Srikalahasti Railway project. Addressing participants in the dharna, ex-MLC K S Lakshman Rao said that the govertnment was acquiring 700 acres of land from 14 villages in five mandals in the district.

The land value ranges from Rs 20 lakh to 25 lakh per acre whereas the government had offered only Rs 4 lakh to 12 lakh per acre. He demanded that the government pay compensation as per the provisions of the land acquisition act. District secretary Y Radha Krishna also spoke.
