Visakhapatnam: The local branch of CBI on Monday registered a case against Kondaveeti Mani Prasad, Sub-Inspector of Police, Railway Protection Force, South Central Railway, Guntur for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant for not booking a case against him.

The complainant is having 60 cents of agricultural land besides railway track at Thummala Cheruvu village and during cultivation, the embankment of the land was damaged. While repairing the embankment of his land on February 5, by using a JCB, the signal cable of railway department was cut.

The Sub-Inspector threatened the complainant by saying that the damage to railway property was a very big offence. When the complainant told the Sub-Inspector that it happened unexpectedly and pleaded him not to book any case against him, the SI demanded the complainant to pay Rs one lakh as bribe for not booking any case against him.

When the complainant expressed his inability in paying Rs one lakh as bribe, the SI reduced the bribe amount to Rs 30,000 and directed him to pay the amount at Nadikudi on Monday. As the complainant was not willing to pay bribe, as demanded, he lodged a complaint with CBI for taking necessary legal action.

The CBI registered a case and laid a trap. The SI was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. He will be produced before the Special Judge Court for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam.
