Kurnool: Discontent is brewing in the district TDP as the party high command is accused of preferring those crossed to the party to trusted old horses in handing over reins of the party in-charge in many Assembly constituencies. The party rank and file voice displeasure at the high command’s decision and leaders’ style of functioning. They are apprehending that groupism would deal a blow to the party let alone reviving the past glory. In the district, TDP managed to win only three out of 14 Assembly seats.

They feel that internal bickerings are the bane of the party. Out of 14 constituencies in the district, half of them are reportedly rife with groupism. In Panyam, which holds special place in the district, former Congress Minister Erasu Pratapa Reddy has been made constituency in-charge. Erasu earlier contested polls from Srisailam, but later moved to Panyam because his native mandal has been merged with Panyam as part of constituencies’ reorganisation.

He tasted rout, but has been taking part in party activities to gain a good grip over the constituency. Former minister KE Prabhakar was denied ticket since the TDP allotted his brother KE Krishnamurthy Pattikonda seat, while Krishnamurty’s Dhone seat went to his other brother KE Pratap. However, Prabhakar was saddled with the Pattikonda constituency in-charge responsibilities. He nursed an ambition to contest 2019 polls and set sights on the Panyam seat as Kalluru where he enjoyed formidable vote bank got merged with Panyam.

Erasu group is alleging that Prabhakar was instrumental in getting some of the nominated posts to his followers bypassing the in-charge. These include market yard directors and temple board trustee posts. The KE group said that it was ridiculous on the party of Erasu, who is accused of always on foreign jaunts throwing CM’s tour to winds, to sling mud on the KE family. In Aluru, former MLC Masala Padmaja and the constituency in-charge Veerabhadra Goud do not see eye to eye because of old rivalry.

They are vying for supremacy over the constituency. Padmaja was stated to be very close to the previous in-charge Vykuntham Mallikarjuna. Veerabhadra Goud group was seething with discontent against Padmaja as she had not worked wholeheartedly for the electoral success of Goud during the last elections. However, on the directions of the high command, he tried to get along with her but in vain.

There were instances of both the groups resorting to show of strength in villages during local fairs. The problem was taken to the notice of the high command. The groupism in the once notorious Allagadda, which is slowly distancing away from factionism, reached its crescendo when two groups in the party clashed at Ahobilam causing injuries to party workers.
