The name ‘Surabhi’ had become the family name of the artistes. Basing on the traditional ‘Tolubommalata,’ the artistes improvised and started staging dramas with new techniques. The first play ‘Keechaka vadha’ was staged and since then the theatre group was named as Surabhi Nalakalu Company. Later, Surabhi theatre group comprising of just one family, started the shows.

In the earlier days there were about 3000 members in that family. After a period due to many reasons, the family was split into groups and started giving performances on their own.

Sirabhi theatre is unique in their presenting style when compared to others. Most of the plays are based on Mythological stories and the audience will feel that they are watching a movie, thanks to the huge sets, techniques, lighting, costume designs and synchronisation of the effects etc.

Seven days of Surabhi dramas in the city Sri Vinayaka Natya Mandali of Surabhi theatre has planned to stage dramas for seven days starting from Thursday at Sri Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College.

The organiser Rekadar Venugopala Rao said that the family members of the troupe consists of 50, including infants. They will be staying in the music college premises itself and they are staging the dramas with full equipment. He appealed to the theatre lovers to come to witness the dramas and encourage them.
