Kurnool: In spite of RDO Hussain Saheb asking officials to make all arrangements at the Goddess Saraswati temple (Kolanu Bharati temple in Nallamala forest range) for Vasanta Panchami, there was no action on the part of the Revenue, Rural Water Supply and Panchayat Raj officials even as the festival is barely one day away.
Highlights:
- It is the main temple of Goddess Saraswathi in the state
- Thousands of devotees’ throng temple on Monday for naming ceremony and to fulfil vows
This temple is the third in the country, and the only main temple for Goddess Saraswathi in the state. The festival is celebrated on January 22. Thousands of the devotees throng the temple for the festival.
Initiating tiny tots into education, naming ceremonies and fulfilling their vows to the Goddess take place on the day. This time, the darshan of the deity is not possible as the temple is under renovation. While the RWS department threw off its hands in helplessness for want of funds, revenue and panchayat raj officials had not visited the temple site so far.
In the temple pond, where the people take a holy dip, there is no enough water. Moreover, a lot of garbage is piled up and dirty water found its way into the pond. Public toilets in the temple area are unkempt while there is no facility for drinking water.
The sanctum-sanctorum of the temple has been closed on account of the works to give face-lift to the shrine. Talking to The Hans India here on Saturday, Vishwa Hindu Parishad district pramukh Naga Suresh breathed fire on the officials for not making arrangements at the temple for the festival and warned them of serious consequences if devotees are subjected to inconvenience.
