Srikakulam: The municipal corporation officials are failed to collect property tax even half of the total target amount so far. The total target amount for current financial year is Rs 16.88 crore, of it Rs 2 crore amount was declared as not possible to collect and reported it to the government. Remaining target amount is Rs 14.88 crore.

Of it, Rs 8.05 crore amount of tax was collected so far and remaining Rs 6.83 crore need to be collected before March 31. The government also announced 50 per cent discount offer to tax payers if they pay their tax in a single premium.

For example, if a building owner required to pay Rs 1 lakh if he is ready to pay single premium, he has to pay Rs 50,000 only. Even after this announcement, the tax payers in Srikakulam city are not coming forward to clear their dues.

The total buildings of all categories located in Srikakulam city is 34,000 and total population is 1.26 lakh residing within the city limits in all identified buildings.

“We are creating massive awareness among people to collect tax from them absolutely by announcing through loud speakers, displaying banners, pasting posters,” said corporation commissioner R Sriramulu Naidu explained to this newspaper.
