Ram Gopal Varma on Friday took to Twitter to announce that Vivek Oberoi will be playing Mutthappa Rai in his next film ‘Rai’. The director has initially conceived the project, on the former don-turned-activist based in Bengaluru, with Sudeep but due to reasons best known to the filmmaker, he is now going ahead with Vivek.
“Launching my new film "Rai" The Greatest Gangster Ever on May 1st Vivek Oberoi will be playing the title role. Initially "RAI" was planned with Sudeep ..but for various reasons I am going ahead with Vivek (sic),” he posted.
To be made in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi and to be shot across Mangalore, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Dubai and London, the gangstar-based drama will be bankrolled by CR Manohar. RGV also said that Mutthappa Rai will unveil the first look of the film on his birthday, i.e. May 1.
