Hyderabad: Terming the clashes between AIMIM and Congress workers and few other stray incidents particularly in old city as “unfortunate,” Minister for Panchyat Raj and Information and Technology K T Rama Rao on Tuesday said police would take action against those indulged in the violence. He exuded confidence that TRS would reach the target of seats it had set for itself.

Addressing the media here, KTR said the police had visited the places where trouble broke out and launched investigating into the incidents. The culprits would be brought to book.

Since the clashes were reported outside the polling centres, the necessity of conduct of re-polling would not arise. Barring such stray incidents, polling by and large went off peacefully in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election, the Minister said.

He rebutted the opposition allegations by the Opposition that the TRS had misused official machinery and employed money and muscle power in the election. Police also registered cases against the TRS workers along with other party leaders who indulged in violation poll code.

KTR was confident that the TRS would emerge victorious by winning majority of seats as the post poll surveys showed that his party would emerge victorious. Low turnout in the election had left him disappointed, he said. However, the increase in the voting from 42.9 per cent in 2009 to nearly 50 per cent this time was a good sign, he added.
