Red Hills: A two-day ‘Facility Based New Born’ (FBNB) care workshop began at Niloufer Hospital here on Thursday.

Dr Murali Krishna, Niloufer hospital superintendent said the nurses should learn the techniques of new-born care through this workshop. He urged the healthcare practitioners to practice the skills at their respective hospitals and help in decreasing neonatal mortality rate in Telangana.

As many as 100 nurses from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha states participated in workshop, which was conducted as part of the national conference of Indian Academy of Paediatrics Neonatology Chapter (IAP).

Dr Ramesh Dampuri, Paediatrician and National Neonatology Forum Executive Member, Telangana explained about breastfeeding and its importance. He said the breastfeeding must be done within the first hour of birth and exclusive breastfeeding should be continuing till the first six months.

Dr Srinivas Murki, Neonatologist welcomed the delegates and told the nurses that they were the backbone of new-born care.

“The correct position of the baby by mother and good latching by baby give good milk supply. Breastfeeding would increase Intelligence quotient in babies,” he said.
