Hyderabad: Security personnel deployed at the dais of ‘Save AP’ meeting at LB Stadium thrashed a police constable, on duty at the venue, for raising slogans in favour of Telangana on Saturday. The constable, Srinivas of Dubbaka in Medak district alleged that he was assaulted by police from Seemandhra region after he raised pro-Telangana slogans. He was prompted to do so after some APNGOs leaders made derogatory remarks on Telangana statehood.
“I was hurt following statements by the APNGOs leaders and their claim that there was no demand for separate state among people from Telangana,” stated Srinivas. Condemning the assault, TRS MLA T Harish Rao, Former PCC president D Srinivas and TRS MLA Etela Rajendar condemned the assault against the constable. They said that like Seemandhra employees, the constable was also given freedom to express their feelings. But the cop was brutally beaten up by constables from Seemandhra region.
The constable’s friend G Srisailam lodged a complaint with Saifabad police stating that Srinivas was humiliated when he raised pro-Telangana slogans following remarks of APNGO leaders. “Srinivas’ ribs were broken by those involved in the attack. Some cops from Telangana, on duty at the venue, came to his rescue,” said Srisailam in the complaint.
