The young and old observe day long Upavasam (Fast) for the whole day Sujanaranjani, a musical organisation based in Sanathnagar, conducts a musical tribute programme to Lord Shiva every year on Maha Shivaratri at Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple (Hanuman Devasthanam).

Devotees observe jagaran on Shivarathri from 6 pm to 6 am and invoke Lord Shiva’s blessings by singing his praises. The young and old observe day long Upavasam (Fast) for the whole day Sujanaranjani, a musical organisation based in Sanathnagar, conducts a musical tribute programme to Lord Shiva every year on Maha Shivaratri at Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple (Hanuman Devasthanam). The programme is open to performances from people of any age groups.

This year, the programme was a grand affair with senior musicians Sundari Janakiraman, PV Subbarao, RV Panduranga Sarma, Sattiraju Venu Madhav, TP Balasubramaniam, Kolanka Sai Kumar and others participated in the jagaran, beginning at 6 pm on Wednesday and went on till 6 am on Thursday. Keerthanas of Thyagarja, Deekshitulu, Syama Sastry, Bhaktha Ramadasu, Narayana Teertha, Annamacharya and Purandara Dasu were rendered.

Parthsarathi and Gokulan after being felicitated

Precisely at the time of Lingodbhavam (emergence of Shivalinga), after the prayers and rituals to Lord Shiva were performed, two eminent personalities, musician Nallan Chakravarthula Parthasarathy and teacher Mathrupilli Gokulan, were felicitated by Mahidhara Seetharama Sarma, secretary, Sujanaranjani, for their services in the relative fields.
