Nellore: The smuggling of red sanders in the district, especially on the borders of Nellore and Kadapa districts, continues unabated despite the 24/7 surveillance and monitoring at every stage. On Monday, officials of the Ravooru Forest Range seized a lorry that was transporting red sanders worth Rs 7 lakh at the Chitvel ghat road. On a tip off, a flying squad team from Guntur were able to stop the vehicle after a long chase. According to reports reaching here, the smugglers have been changing their route as they were now diverting the smuggled red sanders to Chittoor via Kadapa as they were being caught frequently while they were being taken to Chennai. With the surveillance system being threatened, security was beefed up and patrolling was intensified. The smugglers were finding it extremely difficult to take the red sanders to Chennai and that was why they had to change their route. Speaking to the media here on Monday, Special Officer of the Forest department Buddha Naik said that the lorry, along with the red sanders, had been sent to the warehouse of the Forest Department at Adoorupalli.
