Engineering students of IIT-H create a web platform for promotional videos
StoryXpress started off as a college project to help grab good grades. But the founders didn't just stop at that. The team of five went a step further to convert their course project into a full-fledged business. Thus was launched StoryXpress, the brain child of a few engineering students from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)- Hyderabad.
“Last March, we got on to doing a course project in multimedia communications where we built a mobile app which would use images, uploaded in chronological order, to make a video,” recalls Ankit Mishra, an electrical engineering student. Since Ankit had worked in startups earlier and had fancied the idea of how tiny teams in non-traditional office set-ups create innovative businesses and products, he decided to set up one of his. The team came together and launched StoryXpress, a website that allows businesses to create videos to market and promote their enterprises.
Often, setting up a business is associated with investing a huge sum of money. However, the studentpreneurs have so far managed to run the show in less than a meagre sum of Rs 10,000. “We plan to scale up the startup and for that we will bank on funding from angel investors,” shares Ankit. “We still have a few months to go before being responsible to start earning cash; till then the idea should take off well to bring in revenue,” he reasons.
