Hyderabad: The launching day of Mission Kakatiya project would go into the history as it was done by none other than Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, said Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao.

Speaking at the launch of the prestigious project in Nizamabad, Harish Rao said, “Lakes are our legacy and their restoration will help reap in at least 30 percent more produce of every crop.”

He asserted that the farmers and people should involve themselves in the project to meet their long cherished dreams and added that farmers could reduce the use of fertilisers and get 30 percent more yield by using de-silted soil to their crops. “Telangana is embellished with 46,557 lakes, ponds and water bodies that no other State has in the country and it is our duty to protect them,” he said.

“The government will restore the lakes by 20 per cent this year and complete its task in a time bound manner. The villages will get adequate irrigation waters on completion of the phenomenal task which is possible by active involvement of the farmers and people,” he asserted. This would sure prove handy as the farm lands would get strengthened through natural organic fertilisers of black soil desilted from the lakes and dung, he said. He wooed the local populace by promising all facilities with a focus on lakes restoration that were abundant the villages and towns.

Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, speaking on the occasion, said since the rural areas were significant for the State and nation for providing food, the government was focusing on strengthening the farmers with all help. The objective of the project was to restore the waters and offer food security to the people of the State, he said. The government would make all efforts to provide MSP to their produce and provide timely succor of crop loan waiver and disburse input subsidy of Rs 10,000 which was raised from Rs 6,500, he added. “Our aim is to protect the interests of framers through lakes restoration being taken up on a mission mode,” he asserted.
