On the eve of World Forest Day on 21st March, 2015 and World Water Day on 22nd March, 2015, Herbal Urban Forestry Program was launched in the Hyderabad city on Thursday.

A First of its kind, the program promoted by the Pragati Biodiversity Knowledge Park and Pragati Foundation in association with United Federation of Residents Welfare Associations (U-FERWAS) and Telangana Builders Federation. Dr. K P Srivasuki, IFS, Director General Center for Forest and Natural Resource Management Studies (CEFNARM) says that the program was in line with Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s ‘Telanagana ku Haritha Haram’ program to plant 230 crore saplings across the region.


Dr Gbk Rao, chairman and Managing director Pragati Group said the right plantation at the right place is the only answer. Sacred herbal plantation at various avenues and urban pockets to provide a pollution free, mosquito free, disease free, virus free, bad bacteria free life to the citizens of Hyderabad. Pragati with its two decades expertise is repeating the performance over 2500 acres in the Pragati Biodiversity Knowledge Park near Chilkur Balaji temple at Proddutur village under Shanakarpally Manadal.


The program involves sharing of expertise by Pragati group with U-FERWAS, Telangana Builders Federation, private and public bodies to provide disease free lung space to the citizens of Hyderabad at various road meridians, road avenues, parks, junctions and urban pockets.

Dr. K P Srivasuki said, “A sum of Rs.800 crore over three years is earmarked for the development of 230 crore plantations of which 100 crores plants are allocated for forest area, 125 crore for rural area and 5 crore for urban area. Pragati project since last ten years has a richest collection of most rare herbal medicinal plants including the conservation of Ashoka Sita, one of the endangered herbal plant spiecies.”


On this occasion a herbal display of plants including Holy Basil, Lemon grass, Kanaka Champak, Sita Ashoka, Mountain Rose, Maruvam, Lemon scented Eucalyptus, Mosquito repellent - Rose scented Geranium, Davanam, Machipatri, Kamandalam, Nirgundi was also organized.
