Festival frenzy marks Lashkar bonalu

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and a host of other VIPs, including Union Ministers M Venkaiah Naidu and Bandaru Dattatreya, visited the Mahankali temple in Secunderabad and offered prayers.

The Chief Minister, accompanied by his wife Shobha, visited the temple in the morning and offered silk clothes and special pujas to the presiding deity. KCR said he had prayed the Goddess to shower blessings and help in the development of Telangana State and ensure prosperity and health of the people.

He prayed the Goddess to bless the State with adequate rains and good crops. He said the blessings of the Goddess would always be there for the people of the State. On arrival at the temple, the Temple committee members accorded him a grand reception and at the end of the prayers, they offered “theertha prasadams” to him.

Earlier, Commercial Taxes Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav presented silk clothes to Goddess Mahakali on behalf of the State government. Yadav said the TRS government had declared Bonalu as the State festival last year and released adequate funds for the celebrations.

He also said at the instance of the Chief Minister all the Ammavaru temples in Secunderabad were bedecked and illuminated for the occasion. Ministers Eatala Rajender, T Padma Rao, Indrakaran Reddy, Jagadish Redddy, party MP Keshav Rao, MLA Konda Surekha, TRS leaders D Srinivas, Konda Murali, Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy also visited the temple and offered prayers.

Among other dignitaries, who visited the temple, included state BJP president G Kishen Reddy, Nizamabad MP Kavitha, Deputy Speaker Padma Devendar Reddy, Telangana Council chairman K Swamy Goud, Telangana Political JAC convener Prof Kodandaram, Srinivas Goud and others.

The Endowments Department and Temple Trustees made elaborate arrangements for the Bonalu festival. The devotees started queuing up at the temple from 2 am for darshan. Police made elaborate security arrangements.
