Hyderabad: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) officials on Saturday arrested three more persons in connection with the Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (Eamcet)-II paper leak case, taking the total number of people arrested to six.

The arrests followed the confession of one Ramesh Shaik, who was arrested by the CID on Friday. According to CID Additional Director-General Satyanarain, those who were arrested were Sanikam Raja Gopal Reddy (65) of Bangalore, Arigi Venkata Ramanaiah alias Venkata Ramana of Dilsukhnagar and native of Krishna district, who runs ‘Resonance Medical Academy’ at Dilsukhnagar and LB Nagar along with the mess in-charge Bandaru Ravindra.

The additional DG said the accused Venkata Ramana and Ravindra had sent four students of their academy to the Pune camp with the help of Shaik Ramesh alias Raheem. They had collected Rs 35 lakh from these three students and paid it to Ramesh.

Raja Gopal Reddy was earlier arrested in several cases of Medical Entrance Exam question paper leak case and Medical Admission irregularities in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. He organised a camp in Bengaluru for 14 students who were contacted by another accused Vishnudhar of Hyderabad and six students procured by Jyothi Babu of Vijayawada.

He collected Rs 1.25 crore from the brokers, the additional DG said. The efforts were on to nab the remaining accused at the earliest. In the Eamcet II conducted by the Telangana government, about 130 students were identified to have indulged in malpractice. They had paid amounts varying from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 40 lakh to various brokers to procure the question papers, three days before the examination.

The officials said that one Khaleel, kingpin of the scam was still absconding. Khaleel had reportedly connived with the outsourcing staff at the New Delhi printing press and leaked the Eamcet II paper. Meanwhile, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma, Additional DG (L&O) Anjani Kumar and CID Chief Satyanarain, met Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at his camp office and submitted a report on the status of investigation.
