HC directs TS Govt to follow old quota system in minority medical colleges

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the Telangana Government to make admissions into Unaided Minority Professional Medical and Dental Institutions for academic year 2017-2018, in the ratio of 60:40, only in accordance with GOMS No. 130 and not as per the new GOs which were issued reducing A category seats and increasing B and C Category seats.

A division bench comprising Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice T Rajani was dealing with a petition by Basheeruddin Siddiqui and 13 other aspirants for MBBS admissions challenging GO Ms No 115, 117 and 119 issued in July 2017 wherein the percentages of Category “A” seats have been reduced to 50% and seats of B and C categories enhanced to 35% and 15% respectively. he petitioners contended that as per the GO 130 issued in the year 2016, the percentages of A category was 60%, and for B and C Categories was 25% and 15%, respectively. However, due to increase in management quota and reduction in category A, the minority students with good NEET ranks would have been forced to opt for category B seats if the college said that category A seats are filled.

While staying the implementation of GO Ms No 115, 117 and 119, the High Court bench issued interim order by making it clear that all the admissions shall be strictly in accordance with the GO No 130.
