Hyderabad: "State roads totalling a length of 879 km have been declared as new National Highways in Telangana during the last three years," informed Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways P. Radhakrishnan.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, the Union Minister said that the Centre has sanctioned Rs. 720.75 crore in 2014-15, Rs. 203.05 Cr in 2015-16 and Rs. 2,731.96 Cr in 2016-17 for development of NHs entrusted with Telangana Government during the last three years.

In addition, one work of 99 km length with total capital cost of Rs. 1905 crore has been sanctioned by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) during the last three years in Telangana. "The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways considers declaration of some state roads as new NHs from time to time depending upon requirement of connectivity, inter-se-priority and availability of funds," Radhakrishnan said.
