Sewage stagnation makes lives difficult

Chandanagar: The residents of Chandanagar are going through agony because of sewage water stagnation on the road stretch from Deepti Srinagar Park to Delhi Public School Branch. The road is filled with mucky and stinking water continuously overflowing from choked drains in the area. Despite repeated repairs, the drains built in the area get choked fast causing sewage overflow. For the past one month, the problem has started again giving undue mental and physical agony to the locals. As the area is low lying, the sewage water gets water logged causing inconvenience to the commuters.

A resident informed that in rainy season, the sewage water level rises up to 1 or 2 feet and overflows continuously.

Another resident said, “Even a day’s rain fills this road with 1 or 2 feet of sewerage water, so just imagine what happens when its heavily raining. We have a hell of a time during rainy season. But now it’s summer time and despite new drains built there is no improvement. Many schools are located here it's very disgusting and risky to take our children to school through sewage water, but we are forced to do so as this is the only route to the school. For the past two years, I got skin ailment as drain water spilled on my feet. Children in the area also fall sick because of the rise in mosquito population. We don’t have footpath space as it is occupied by parked cars, we have no option but to go through the stagnant water. A few days back when I complained on the issue, the officials told me that due to the ongoing bridge construction works, the end of the drainage nala has been blocked temporarily. They are working on it and would resolve the issue soon, but it seems in vain as the officials are not inclined to solve the problems soon.”
