POWERGRID SR-I lift Inter-Regional Kabaddi Championship
Hyderabad: Southern Region-I (SR-I) ended a 16-year jinx while defeating fellow hosts Southern Region-II (SR-II) 38-34 in a thrilling final to win the POWERGRID Inter-Regional Kabaddi Tournament 2026 in Hyderabad on Sunday. The thrilling contest drew loud cheers from players and spectators as SR-I secured the championship title.
SR-II had entered the final after defeating Northern Region-III (NR-III) 39-31 in the first semi-final, while SR-I edged past Corporate Centre (CC) 42-41 in a nail-biting second semi-final. CC finished third, followed by NR-III in fourth place.
Aman Thakur of Corporate Centre was named Best Raider, Clarex of SR-II won the Best Catcher award, and SR-I’s Lavan Kumar was adjudged Best All-Rounder.
The three-day tournament, held from September 4 to 6, featured 144 employee-athletes representing 12 teams from POWERGRID establishments across the country. The event provided a platform for employees to showcase sporting talent while promoting fitness, teamwork and camaraderie.
POWERGRID Executive Director (SR-I) Doman Yadav congratulated the participating teams and highlighted the role of sports in developing teamwork, discipline, resilience and leadership. He said the players’ competitive spirit reflected POWERGRID’s values of excellence, collaboration and determination.
The tournament was hosted by POWERGRID Southern Region-I at Firefox Sports & Resorts, Moinabad, Hyderabad, and organised in association with the Telangana Kabaddi Association.
