MK Stalin Questions Vijay’s London Trip, Attacks TVK Government Over Law And Order

DMK president MK Stalin on Saturday launched a series of criticisms against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader C. Joseph Vijay, questioning the purpose of his recent London visit and alleging deterioration in law and order, frequent power cuts and rising prices in the state.

Stalin was speaking at the DMK’s annual Mupperum Vizha at Kalaignar Arangam at the party headquarters.

Stalin Questions Investments From London Visit

Taking aim at Vijay’s recent overseas trip, Stalin asked what investments had been secured for Tamil Nadu and questioned why agreements involving Indian companies were signed in London.

“Why did you go to London? What investments have you brought to Tamil Nadu?” Stalin asked, while also questioning the need to sign agreements with an Indian company during a foreign visit.

The criticism comes after the TVK government said Vijay’s six-day UK investment mission resulted in memoranda of understanding worth around ₹15,300 crore, with the commitments expected to generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Attack Over Law And Order And Power Supply

Stalin also targeted the state government over what he alleged was a deterioration in law and order.

He referred to reports of murders, attacks and shootings and claimed that incidents of violence had become frequent. He also alleged that members linked to the ruling establishment were being arrested in connection with illegal drug-related activities.

On power supply, Stalin used a sharp comparison, saying the state's main competition was between power cuts and sickle attacks. He also alleged that residents were experiencing power cuts at night while prices were rising unpredictably.

These claims were part of Stalin's political criticism of the newly formed TVK administration and were not accompanied in the report by independent figures establishing the scale of the alleged deterioration.

Stalin Takes Swipe At Vijay's Film Career

Stalin also referred to Vijay's transition from cinema to politics while criticising his public appearances.

Taking an apparent dig at the actor-turned-politician, the DMK leader said Vijay had earlier stated that he would stop acting in films but continued to perform before the public. He contrasted Vijay's earlier local film shoots with what he described as “foreign shooting” in reference to the London trip.

Stalin also criticised what he described as a “reels craze” in the Assembly, questioning the focus on displaying the Chief Minister on screens.

By-Election And Political Allegations

The DMK chief also raised the issue of an upcoming by-election, describing it as a “forced by-election”. He alleged that the vacancy arose through a resignation soon after the previous election and questioned the circumstances under which the seat was now being contested under a different symbol.

Stalin argued that the circumstances surrounding the by-election raised questions about the democratic process.

He also accused the ruling establishment of using social-media videos and defamatory campaigns against those questioning the government's performance.

Stalin Highlights DMK's Political Journey

During his address, Stalin also spoke about the DMK's history of electoral victories and defeats, crediting party workers and supporters for his position as party president and Chief Minister.

He said the party's political journey had included both successes and setbacks and described this history as part of the DMK's strength.

Stalin further alleged that welfare initiatives introduced during previous DMK administrations were being implemented by the present government in modified or renamed forms.

The remarks come amid an increasingly active political contest between the DMK and the TVK government, with Vijay's first major overseas investment mission becoming a subject of debate between the ruling party and opposition.
