Apple’s much-awaited September event is finally here, and this year’s launch could mark a major shift in the company’s usual iPhone strategy. The event, titled “Surprise and shine”, is scheduled to take place at Apple Park on September 9 at 10:30 PM IST.

The spotlight is expected to remain firmly on the iPhone, with Apple reportedly preparing to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. However, the long-rumoured first foldable iPhone could be the biggest surprise. Apple is also expected to announce new Apple Watch models and refreshed AirPods.

Apple will livestream the event through its official website, the Apple TV app and YouTube. The keynote is also expected to attract considerable attention as the company’s new CEO, John Ternus, is set to take the stage for the first time following his appointment.

iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max: The biggest announcements

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be the main highlights of the event. Apple has not officially confirmed any of the leaked specifications, but several reports have pointed towards significant upgrades across performance, battery and cameras.

The Pro models are rumoured to feature Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, which could bring improvements in performance and efficiency. Better battery life is also expected to be part of the upgrade package.

Camera improvements could be another major talking point. One of the more notable leaks suggests that the iPhone 18 Pro Max may get a variable-aperture main camera. Unlike a fixed aperture, a variable aperture can adjust the amount of light reaching the sensor, potentially giving users greater flexibility in different lighting conditions.

The display sizes are reportedly set to remain familiar, with the iPhone 18 Pro expected to feature a 6.3-inch screen and the Pro Max a 6.9-inch panel. Apple could also reduce the size of the Dynamic Island. There has been speculation about under-display Face ID as well, although this remains unconfirmed.

Is Apple finally ready to launch a foldable iPhone?

For many Apple fans, the possibility of a foldable iPhone could be the real reason to watch this year’s event.

After years, Apple is widely expected to enter the foldable smartphone market. The device has reportedly been referred to as the “iPhone Ultra” and could adopt a book-style folding design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup.

Apple is said to be paying particular attention to the hinge mechanism and the visible crease on the inner display. The company could aim for a cleaner folding experience than some existing foldable phones.

However, such premium technology is not expected to come cheap. Reports suggest the foldable iPhone could be priced above $2,500, potentially making it Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet. That's roughly 2.6 lakh rupees in India!

Apple could also break from its traditional annual launch strategy. Reports suggest the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air could arrive in spring 2027 instead. This would leave the September event focused primarily on Apple’s high-end devices.

Apple Watch, AirPods and more

Beyond the iPhone, Apple could also unveil new wearable products. The Apple Watch Series 12 and a new Apple Watch Ultra are expected to feature at the event, with reports suggesting additional health-tracking features and the possible return of a ceramic case.

New AirPods could also be announced. Rumours indicate that Apple may introduce health-focused sensors and other improvements. However, the more ambitious camera-equipped AirPods are reportedly still further away from launch.

Apple’s wider smart-home ambitions may also receive some attention. A possible home hub featuring a display has been rumoured, although this remains considerably less certain than the expected iPhone and Apple Watch announcements.

With numerous leaks already circulating, much of the surprise surrounding the upcoming products may have been reduced. Still, Apple could have a few details left to reveal on stage.

Apple September 9 event: Where to watch

Apple’s September 9 event will begin at 10:30 pm IST on Wednesday. Viewers can watch the keynote live through Apple.com, the Apple TV app and YouTube Live.

With a foldable iPhone potentially joining the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, Apple’s September launch could become one of its most important in years. The leaks have already built plenty of anticipation; now, the focus shifts to what Apple officially unveils on stage.
