19 test positive for coronavirus after attending funeral in Sangareddy

As many as 19 people tested positive for coronavirus after attending the funeral of a 55-year-old woman in Zaheerabad of Sangareddy district.

The woman was dead in a private hospital in Hyderabad on June 9 and her last rites were held on the same day which was attended by her family members. A day after the funeral, the reports of the woman were found to be coronavirus positive. Alerted over the incident, the medical and health department and municipal officials conducted tests on her family members and sent them to an isolation ward in Mirzapur (B).

On the arrival of the reports, 19 members out of 25 of her family were found to be infected with the virus. The infected persons include men, women and children. They are being shifted to the government general hospital in Sangareddy. Meanwhile, the officials learned that around 40 people have attended the funeral. Efforts are on to trace the remaining.

The sudden spike in the coronavirus cases left the people panic. The area where the patients are residing in was disinfected and declared as containment zone.
