Hyderabad: State Agriculture Minister, S Niranjan Reddy said that a task force has been formed for strict surveillance on those cultivating the HT Cotton seeds and using Glyphosate.

Also, PD act is invoked against those distributing and selling the spurious seeds and fertilizers.

Addressing at a meeting convened here on Friday, with MLAs, Ministers and officials to discuss on the steps to create awareness among farmers on seed production and marketing, he said that State has registered record level production of paddy, cultivated in about 38.19 lakh acres during the Rabi season.

He said that the State government's main objective is to make agriculture profitable to improve the living conditions of the farmers in the State.

For this, he said there is a need to create awareness among farmers regarding best practices in seed production, marketing and management practices in agriculture. As part of this, training programmes to create awareness will be organised constituency-wise in the State.

The minister said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has directed to collect the data regarding all kinds of crops being cultivated in the State within a week.

Referring to the recent unseasonal rains witnessed in the State, Niranjan Reddy said that the unexpected showers have caused losses to the farmers.

Ministers Eatala Rajender, A Indakaran Reddy and several MLAs participated in the meeting.
