Peddapalli: The district Congress president Makkan Singh Raj Thakur hit at the Singareni management and local MLA for failing to address the problems being faced by the people because of the opencast project-5.

He took part in dharna organised at Godavarikhani under the leadership of Congress party corporation president Bontala Rajesh on the problems faced by the people due to the OC-5

Speaking on the occasion Thakur said all the people of Ramagundam constituency staged many struggles under the leadership of the Congress party against the expansion of the OCP-5 project from the beginning. The Congress opposed OCP-5 even in the plebiscite held at the behest of the Singareni management and raised its voice on behalf of the people. But the local legislator who during the election boasted that he would stop OCP-5 failed to do so after winning the election because of his the fraudulent deals with the Singareni management, he alleged. Keeping in mind the problems faced by the people due to OCP-5 project, the legislator should support the people's fight otherwise, Congress would stage protests and approach High Court & National Green Tribunal.

Police arrested Thakur and the Congress ranks who were marching towards the OCP-5 project took them to the police station and released them on personal bond. Senior leaders of Congress party, corporators, former corporators, division presidents, SC, BC, minority, women, youth wing, presidents of NSUI divisions took part in the protest.
