Hanamkonda: Given the varied challenges and the policies brought in by the Central government, education system needs a major overhaul, Student Federation of India (SFI) All India Joint Secretary Dipsita Dhar said. She was speaking at a seminar on 'Challenges faced by the education system in the country' organised by the Kakatiya University SFI unit here on Wednesday.

"The Centre, which is meddling with the education system, is bringing in changes that likely to lead to chaos in the structure and governance of the higher education system," she said. As a result, higher education will be a distant dream for the poor and rural students, she added. Demanding the Centre to do away with its anti-education policies, Dipsita Dhar emphasised the need for overhauling the education system so that poor and rural students would get equal opportunities to pursue their academics.

SFI State president RL Murthy stressed the need for implementing the recommendations of Radhakrishnan Commission. "The need of the hour is to ensure conducive atmosphere in the universities for the students to excel. The varsities should become havens for churning out social scientists and academicians who can bring a qualitative change in the society. Arts College Assistant Professor Krishna said that Centre and State have to give priority to education. SFI State secretary T Nagaraju emphasised the need for preventing communal ideology. SFI State vice-president Naresh Yadav, KU activists Burra Veerabhadram, Joint Secretary Prasanna, Vinod, Shiva, Kalyan, Navya, Supraja, and Srikanth were among others present.
