District Collector Adarsh ​​Surabhi has directed officials to take measures to ensure that not a single pregnant woman or newborn loses their life due to anemia in the district. He ordered the robust implementation of the "Nari – My Health, Anemia-Free" program to completely eradicate anemia.

On Thursday, the District Collector held a meeting with medical officers regarding the ongoing implementation of the "Nari" program. He inquired with the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) about the status of hemoglobin testing for pregnant women.

In response, the DMHO stated that there are currently 8,477 registered pregnant women (ANC cases) in the district. He explained that between September 18 and October 7, hemoglobin tests were conducted on 1,808 of them. The tests revealed severe anemia in 20 pregnant women, while another 292 were found to have hemoglobin levels below 9.

Subsequently, the Collector stated that the goal is to build a healthy society by eradicating anemia in the district through the "Nari" program. He instructed that the Medical Officer of every Primary Health Centre (PHC) must identify all pregnant women within their jurisdiction and [monitor] their hemoglobin (Hb) levels... ...advised that mandatory testing be conducted.

The Collector specifically directed officials to identify pregnant women with hemoglobin levels below 10 and ensure they receive continuous monitoring, necessary medical tests, treatment, and medication. He emphasized the need to pay special attention to pregnant women suffering from severe anemia and to take measures ensuring they receive the required medical care.

He advised implementing effective measures to prevent maternal and infant mortality by continuously monitoring the health of pregnant women and providing timely treatment to those with anemia. He ordered that steps be taken to ensure every pregnant woman maintains a hemoglobin level above 11.

The Collector instructed that all identified cases of anemia be treated in accordance with established guidelines and that the patients' health status be continuously monitored. He directed medical officers, ANMs, and ASHA workers to coordinate their efforts in monitoring the health details of every pregnant woman at the field level and ensuring timely medical services for those in need.

District Medical and Health Officer Bhaskar Naik, along with other health department officials and medical officers, participated in the meeting.
