JNTUH Manthani students develop smart robot for disaster rescue
Peddapalli: Students of JNTUH University College of Engineering, Manthani, have developed a smart robotic system to support rescue operations in disaster-hit areas. The project, titled “Rescue Vision – Smart Disaster Rescue and Survivor Detection System,” was created by Arshiya Anjum, R. Indhu Varshini, Madhuraveni Navya and Vyshnavi Ramilla during the national-level 36-hour hackathon, Infinity Hacks 2026.
The robot is designed to enter hazardous areas before rescue personnel and help identify people trapped under debris during earthquakes, building collapses and industrial accidents. It is equipped with a camera, PIR, temperature, gas, smoke and ultrasonic sensors to detect survivors, obstacles and dangerous conditions.
The system can transmit alerts to rescue teams, potentially reducing risks to personnel and saving valuable time. Developed using the college’s IoT and robotics equipment, the students plan to integrate Artificial Intelligence, drones, advanced cameras and improved communication systems in future versions.
