Narayanpet–Makthal–Kodangal LIP underway

Narayanpet: Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Congress district president K Prashanth Kumar Reddy said steps had been initiated for the Narayanpet–Makthal–Kodangal lift irrigation project at an estimated cost of Rs 4,800 crore, which could provide irrigation to around one lakh hectares. “Compensation of up to Rs 20 lakh per acre was being provided to those losing land for projects,” he added.

Reddy said the government had issued more than 15 lakh new ration cards and was providing six kg of fine rice per person. The process of sanctioning new pensions was continuing, while financial assistance of up to Rs.5 lakh was being provided to families under the Indiramma housing scheme.

He said women had been provided free bus travel and the government had extended around Rs.11,000 crore to the RTC. Women’s self-help groups were also being strengthened financially and encouraged towards self-employment. The Congress government had undertaken more than 72,000 job recruitments for youth and appointed around 10,000 teachers through the Mega DSC, he said. The recruitment process for another 10,000 posts was also underway.

Prashanth Kumar Reddy said a comprehensive caste, social and economic survey covering 53 aspects had been conducted in Telangana, laying the foundation for social justice. He said the government was taking steps to provide 42 per cent reservation to BCs in local bodies.

He said the Future City project would attract major investments and create employment opportunities, with MoUs already signed with more than 350 companies. In Narayanpet district, the government was giving priority to roads, healthcare facilities, skill development centres and industrial development. He said the government would fight legally, if necessary, to secure Telangana’s rightful share of Krishna and Godavari waters.

Prashanth Kumar Reddy said every promise made in the manifesto would be fulfilled within the next two-and-a-half years and expressed confidence that Telangana would emerge as a leading state in the country with people’s support.
