Nizamabad: Former MP, senior advocate and one of the protagonists of the separate Telangana movement in 1969, M Narayana Reddy passed away at a private hospital here on Sunday.

Born in September 10, 1931 at Sunket village in Morthad mandal, the veteran lawyer was a freedom fighter, educationist, doyen of women's education in north Telangana. He established the first Women's College in Nizamabad in 1965. Narayana Reddy served as the Nizamabad MP from 1967 to 1971 after contesting as an independent candidate.

As an MP, Reddy raised the issue of separate Telangana for the first time in Lok Sabha and spoke for 80 minutes in 1971 explaining the importance of establishing Telangana State in the Parliament.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao mourned the death of former MP Narayana Reddy and expressed deep sympathy to the family members. The development of Telangana will bring peace to his soul, stated Chief Minister KCR.

The former MP was survived by wife Padmavathi, son Arun Reddy and three daughters.

The MP was to attend a civic reception arranged by his disciples and managements of the educational institutions here on Sunday. When everyone was waiting for his arrival, his death news shocked them. The felicitation programme became a condolence meeting.

Minister A Indrakaran Reddy, former speaker Suresh Reddy, MLA Ganesh Gupta and former Minister Santosh Reddy mourned the death from the civic felicitation stage.
