TGSRTC union elections scheduled for October 9

Telangana State Road Transport Corporation
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation is set to hold union elections on October 9, marking the first polls since 2016. Over 39,000 employees will cast paper ballots, with 10 trade unions competing in the fray. These elections hold heightened significance due to the proposed employee merger with the state government and impending implementation of central labor codes, which could render this the final Identity Committee poll under the current framework.
An alliance comprising the Employees Union, Transport Mazdoor Union, and National Mazdoor Union has formed a Joint Action Committee, releasing a comprehensive 40-point charter of demands. The JAC emphasized that the winning union will play a crucial role representing staff during government negotiations regarding integration.
The alliance highlighted its persistent advocacy since trade union activities were paused in 2019, citing various demonstrations, dharnas, and hunger strikes. They noted that a three-day strike held from April 22 to 24, 2026, contributed significantly toward agreements on government merger, trade union revival, and implementation of the 2021 wage revision.
Raising serious concerns over workforce downsizing, heavy workloads, staff vacancies, delayed promotions, and grueling duty hours particularly for drivers and conductors operating single-crew buses the alliance outlined key charter demands.
Primary demands include merging TGSRTC employees into government service, raising the retirement age to 61, implementing wage revisions from April 1, 2025, alongside clearing 2017 and 2021 arrears, securing job protections, expanding family medical coverage, establishing a uniform transfer policy, expanding fleet strength while curbing hired buses, and granting Rs 10 lakh financial assistance in cases of natural death.
