Govt crushing employees, abandoning farmers: Botcha

Vizianagaram: Leaderof Opposition in the Legislative Council and former minister Botcha Satyanarayana accused the State government of neglecting employees’ grievances and failing to adequately support farmers affected by crop losses. Speaking to the media here on Monday, Botcha said the Village and Ward Secretariat system was introduced by the YSRCP government to realise Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Gram Swaraj and provide transparent employment opportunities to highly educated youth. He recalled that he had personally supervised the recruitment process while serving as Municipal Administration Minister. He particularly condemned the alleged police action against women employees, saying that preventing employees from exercising their democratic right to protest was unacceptable. He demanded that the government immediately address their legitimate demands.

On agriculture, Botcha said crops in the eastern coastal belt had suffered extensive damage after the cyclone crossed near Kalingapatnam. Banana, papaya, maize and paddy crops were among those badly affected, he said. He claimed that farmers were still awaiting compensation for losses suffered during Cyclone Titli . Questioning the government’sresponse to the latest crop losses, Botcha asked whether the coalition government had compensated even a single affected farmer during the past two-and-a-half years despite its promises of a new system. On 34 per cent reservations for BCs in local bodies, Botcha said that if the coalition governmentwas committed to implementing the reservation, it should use its position in the NDA government to bring the required legal amendment without delay.
