Tirupati: With an objective of increasing awareness and reach out to the beneficiaries with information to help them avail extensive primary medical services at Health and Wellness centres, especially the poor, the Government of India has decided to observe 'Ayushman Bharat Pakhwara' across the country from September 15 to October 2.

Various programmes will be organised during this fortnight on various health and fitness aspects from village to district level.Intensified outreach activities in various modes and comprehensive screening through medical camps at sub-centre level are to be held during this period.

Several line departments like health, YSR Aarogyasri, women development and child welfare, education, panchayat raj, municipal administration and urban development and revenue departments will be involved in these programmes.

Director of public health and family welfare sent a letter to all district medical and health officers (DM&HOs) in the state indicating the programmes to be organised during the fortnight.

It may be recalled that the flagship Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna was launched on September 23 in 2018. According to the Union health minister Harsh Vardhan, so far this programme has helped more than 39 lakh people through free of cost treatment saving them Rs 12,000 crore.

To commemorate the first anniversary of Ayushman Bharat, September 23 will be celebrated as 'Ayushman Bharat Diwas' and various programmes are to be held in states during the fortnight. Also, a mega national event 'Gyan Sangam' will be conducted for two days on September 29-30 to highlight the progress and achievements of the scheme.

Speaking to The Hans India, Chittoor district medical and health officer Dr B Ramagiddaiah said that on the first day of the programme, health walk will be conducted at all levels.

On September 29, awareness programmes on cancer will be held while October 1 has been designed to address geriatric problems. Similarly, each day will have special focus on children, pregnant women, Fit India, etc., In the screening camps, yoga programme will be held in the morning.
