Vijayawada: Bengali workers staged a protest in Patamata demanding that the government should arrange trains to send them back to their state. Nearly 1,500 migrant Bengali workers are residing in Patamata area doing petty works.

On Sunday evening, they staged a protest alleging that the state government was not taking initiative to send them back to their state. The police rushed to Patamata area and convinced them to stop the protests. When they continued the protests, the police caned to disperse them.

One migrant worker sustained injury on backside of the head. On noticing the incident, CPM state secretary P Madhu, CPM state secretariat member Ch Baburao and other leaders rushed to the spot and condemned the police action.

They demanded that the state government should arrange a special train to send the migrant workers to West Bengal. The CPM state secretary also strongly condemned the inaction of the State government. Chigurupati Babu Rao has alleged the state government had failed to resolve the problems of migrant Bengali workers. He alleged the leaders were giving false assurances and not taking permanent measures to resolve their problems.
