Markapuram: BJP National Council member and State spokesperson Sadineni Yamini Sharma on Sunday inspected the Veligonda Project and the dam near Gottipadu, along with party leaders, and reviewed the water treatment plant being constructed at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore under the Central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission.

Speaking on the occasion, Yamini Sharma recalled the decades-long struggle for the completion of the Veligonda Project, noting that Jana Sangh leaders and workers had fought for the project since 1978, while BJP leaders later undertook extensive padayatras to press for its implementation.

She expressed special gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending Rs 908 crore in Central funds towards the project. She said it was a matter of satisfaction that the first phase of the project had recently been completed and was now helping provide drinking water to people.

Yamini Sharma said the project had remained a long-standing aspiration of the people and credited the determination of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu since 1996 for its progress.

She also attended the BJP Markapuram district executive meeting as chief guest and briefed the media on the Modi government’s 25 years of governance and the Seva programmes planned from September 17 to October 17.

BJP district president PV Krishna Rao, district in-charge Kokkerla Srinivas, Bellamkonda Vijayalakshmi and Shirasanagandla Srinivasulu were among those present.
