The Central Government has responded in the Parliament to the queries concerning the highly anticipated 8th Pay Commission report, which has the potential to affect about 35.77 lakh central government employees and 33.76 lakh pensioners countrywide.
The officials addressed the concerns raised in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha regarding whether the 8th Pay Commission recommendations could be submitted before the deadline. The commission was constituted on 3rd November 2025, led by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, and it is estimated to produce the report by May 2027.
In response to the speculation concerning an early submission of the report, Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, revealed that there is no official confirmation of an expedited deadline. The government reminded the members that the commission works independently within the deadline frame or submits the report with interim recommendations if any of the preliminary decisions are taken.
The commission is currently conducting widerange of consultations with the employee unions, pensioners, and other stakeholders. Recently, it has visited Jaipur, Chennai, Puducherry, Chandigarh, and other places to understand the demands. Additionally, the 8th Pay Commission has revised its guidelines and recruited a few more senior researchers to accelerate the process.
However, the Government has not revealed the date from which the new pay scale would be implemented. Although it is assumed to take effect from 1st January 2026, there are no concrete confirmations. Consequently, until the final submission of the report by the commission and the government’s approval, the employees would have to wait patiently.
