The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) and Crimson Energy Experts Pvt. Ltd. (CEEPL) celebrated the successful completion of the inaugural batch of ANUGYAN – Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP), marking a significant milestone in industry–academia collaboration to develop skilled professionals for India’s growing nuclear energy sector.

A total of 23 engineers and industry professionals completed the three-month, fully residential programme, which commenced on August 3, 2026. The valedictory ceremony was attended by Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), as Chief Guest, and Prof. B. S. Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad, who presided over the function.

Distinguished attendees included Padma Shri awardees Dr. Chaitanyamoy Ganguly and Dr. Chandrakant Pithawa, eminent nuclear scientists; Shri R. S. Yadav, former Director, Reactor Projects Group, BARC; Shri Dheeraj Pande, Director, Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research; and Shri Shah Nawaz Ahmad, Senior India Advisor, World Nuclear Association. Senior faculty members from IIT Hyderabad and representatives of Crimson Energy Experts also attended.

Comprehensive Training in Nuclear Technology

Over 12 weeks, participants received structured training in reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radiation shielding, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), nuclear safety, quality assurance and the regulatory framework of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). The curriculum combined classroom instruction with laboratory experiments, generic nuclear power plant simulator training, technical case studies and practical insights from experts associated with India’s nuclear establishment, including BARC and NPCIL.

The programme aims to bridge the gap between academic engineering education and the practical requirements of nuclear projects, with an emphasis on technology, safety culture, quality standards and regulatory compliance.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Ghanshyam Prasad highlighted nuclear energy’s importance in ensuring clean, reliable and round-the-clock electricity supply. He emphasised that India’s nuclear ambitions would require a strong pool of skilled professionals and commended IIT Hyderabad and CEEPL for the initiative.

Prof. B. S. Murty described the successful completion of the inaugural programme as an encouraging milestone, underscoring the potential of combining academic foundations with industry expertise. He also expressed IIT Hyderabad’s interest in expanding opportunities for advanced academic programmes, research and technology development in nuclear energy.

Cmde. R. D. Mane (Retd.), Director and President (Nuclear), CEEPL, said the initiative seeks to establish a dedicated talent pipeline for India’s expanding nuclear programme, including SMRs and emerging opportunities across the nuclear supply chain.

Supporting India’s Nuclear Energy Goals

As India pursues its ambition of increasing nuclear power capacity from approximately 8.8 GWe towards 100 GWe by 2047, demand for skilled professionals across design, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, operations and safety is expected to rise.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of joint certificates from IIT Hyderabad and CEEPL to all 23 graduates. The programme is expected to evolve towards longer-duration training and advanced academic pathways in nuclear technology. Announcements regarding admissions for the next batch are expected shortly.
