Joint Mangaluru and Kolkata teams nab key trafficking kingpin
In Short
Mangaluru and Kolkata police have arrested kingpin Rasul Islam for orchestrating a human trafficking network that smuggled Bangladeshi nationals into Mangaluru posing as labourers

Mangaluru police, in coordination with Kolkata police, have arrested Rasul Islam, the main kingpin of a human trafficking network that was smuggling Bangladeshi nationals into Mangaluru. The arrest followed the detention of 11 Bangladeshi nationals who were found staying illegally in the Urwa police station area while posing as construction labourers. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner took the case seriously and directed the DCP (Law and Order) to work closely with Kolkata police. A secret operation was planned, leading to Rasul Islam’s arrest in Kolkata. Two other agents from the same network, Moidin Islam and Dilwar Hussain, had already been arrested in Mangaluru.
Investigation revealed that the network was bringing groups of labourers from North Indian states through Assam and West Bengal, while secretly including Bangladeshi nationals among them. A special team from Mangaluru has already reached Kolkata to bring Rasul Islam back on a transit warrant for further legal proceedings.
